About EPS Products

What is EPS? What is EPS Foam?

EPS (Expanded Polystyrene rigid foam), branded as Teknopor EPS, is a thermoplastic insulation material produced from petroleum. It consists of 98% air and 2% plastic, with a closed-cell structure, typically white in color, lightweight, and economical.

Small polystyrene granules are pre-expanded by being heated with steam and inflated with pentane gas. During this process, numerous small closed cells form inside the granules. The pentane gas inside these cells is quickly replaced with air during and after production. Stored in special silos, the granules are reheated with steam and fused together without leaving gaps, taking the shape of the mold with a honeycomb structure. This results in EPS foam blocks (also known as EPS insulation blocks or styrofoam).

The closed cells containing still, dry air give EPS superior thermal insulation properties. Since the dry air inside the EPS beads does not form thermal bridges, it prevents heat loss and provides excellent insulation.

Technical Properties of EPS Foam

EPS products are durable, long-lasting, and must be selected in the correct density and thickness for the intended climate and application.

  • Thanks to the closed-cell structure, EPS provides low thermal conductivity and high insulation values.

  • It is moisture-resistant, does not absorb water, and resists vapor diffusion.

  • It is eco-friendly, resistant to temperature variations, flexible, dimensionally stable (no expansion or shrinkage), and mechanically strong.

  • Being lightweight, it does not impose extra loads on the building.

  • EPS can also be easily processed and used in the production of composite multi-layer products.

EPS Production at ALYA ARCHI

ALYA ARCHI Import & Export Ltd. carries out all EPS production across  Istanbul, in a total of 46,000 m² of closed production area.

  • With 6 advanced production lines, the company has an annual production capacity of 1.6 million m³ of EPS, supported by a workforce of 460 employees.

  • Following environmental protection policies, the company uses clean and renewable energy resources in production.

  • EPS production is carried out with minimized water and energy consumption in closed systems.

  • No solid waste is generated; cutting residues are fully recycled back into production.

  • Emissions to underground resources and the atmosphere are kept at minimum and controllable levels.

Advantages of EPS

Low Thermal Conductivity – High Insulation

EPS insulation boards provide excellent insulation thanks to their low thermal conductivity value. As the density and thickness of EPS boards increase, their thermal conductivity decreases, thus improving insulation performance.

Because the pentane gas inside the EPS boards is replaced by dry, still air before application, the thickness remains stable even under long-term load. EPS maintains its low thermal conductivity and continues to provide reliable insulation.

High Mechanical Strength

When used with the correct density and thickness for its application, EPS insulation material offers superior mechanical resistance to both short- and long-term loads and impacts, without losing its insulation properties.

Water-Resistant & Prevents Moisture

The closed-cell structure of EPS ensures a very low water absorption rate. Even when exposed to water, EPS retains its properties. It resists condensation, prevents the formation of moisture and mold, protects reinforcement from corrosion, and ensures healthier indoor environments by avoiding bacterial growth.

Dimensional Stability

EPS maintains its dimensions over time, resisting thermal and mechanical effects. Its high dimensional stability makes it ideal for engineering applications. With high compressive strength, EPS is suitable for floors under load, traffic areas, classrooms, auditoriums, and road fills.

Lightweight

EPS is composed of 98% air, making it extremely lightweight. It does not add extra load to structures and is easy to transport, store, and install.

Cost-Effective

EPS is an economic solution, offering insulation at approximately one-third the cost of alternative materials. Compared to mineral wools, it provides at least 20% budget savings. Its light weight reduces labor and transport costs while contributing to lower fuel consumption and emissions.

Resistance to Heat & Cold

EPS provides long-lasting performance in extreme conditions. It can be used at temperatures from -180 °C up to +75–85 °C, depending on density and environment.

Fire Resistance

According to TS EN 13501-1, EPS is classified as at least “E” in reaction to fire, and with B1 raw material as flame-retardant. When used in external insulation systems with plaster or cladding, it achieves class B fire performance. Covered with plaster, screed, or gypsum board, EPS adopts the fire resistance rating of the outer material.

Easy to Shape & Process

EPS is produced in block form and can be cut and shaped easily after production. It adapts to the shape of the mold during foaming, making it highly versatile.

Excellent Insulation Performance

Thanks to the still air inside its closed cells, EPS provides excellent thermal insulation. It reduces heating costs in winter and cooling costs in summer, lowering building energy consumption and reducing environmental impact.

Quick & Easy Installation

Its light and flexible structure ensures fast application, saving time and labor costs.

Flexible Structure

The air gaps in EPS act as a cushion, absorbing impacts and preventing cracks or shrinkage under stress.

Durable & Long-Lasting

EPS is resistant to environmental conditions and maintains its insulation performance throughout the building’s lifespan.

Compatible with Building Materials

EPS is chemically inert to common construction materials like plaster, concrete, and lime, ensuring compatibility with building physics and engineering rules.

Eco-Friendly & Safe for Humans

EPS is 100% recyclable, does not rot, mold, or release harmful substances into the soil or air. It is not a food source for microorganisms, making it safe for human health and environmentally friendly.

EPS Foam Prices

EPS prices vary depending on the type, technical specifications, and dimensions. Compared to other construction materials with similar performance, EPS is more cost-effective. Choosing the right EPS product for your building’s requirements ensures optimal cost savings.

  • EPS Block Prices: Depend on material type, size, and density. Blocks are used for insulation, filling, and decorative applications.

  • EPS Asmolen Prices: Used as lightweight fillers in slabs, reducing material costs (concrete, steel, formwork) and structural load.

  • Graphite EPS Prices: Contain graphite additives that improve insulation by reducing thermal conductivity. More efficient than white or pink EPS boards.

  • EPS Decorative Profiles (Söve): Used in façade decoration, lightweight, easy to process, and insulating. Prices vary by density.

  • External Insulation (ETICS) Prices: Complete façade systems using EPS or graphite boards with adhesives, decorative plaster, and accessories. Prices are calculated per square meter.
