What is a Sandwich Panel?

 

A sandwich panel is a system that protects buildings from external factors, providing a strong stance as one of the most practical and economical solutions. As modern, lightweight, and durable construction elements, sandwich panels are used to cover roofs and façades of buildings, to create insulated interior partitions, or to build cold storage facilities.

Surrounding your building on all sides and the roof, sandwich panels are produced by filling a thick, low-density insulation material between two thin, high-density metal surfaces. Despite their low weight, they provide a high load-bearing capacity and are manufactured on continuous lines, delivered ready for installation.

Depending on the needs of the structure, different insulation materials should be selected. Sandwich panels can be manufactured with PUR, PIR, Mineral Wool, or EPS. The right choice depends on your building’s requirements for thermal, moisture, acoustic insulation, and fire resistance.

Sandwich panels are generally used in industrial facilities, commercial buildings, cold storage warehouses, social facilities, energy plants, agricultural, and livestock structures.


Service Life of Sandwich Panels

 

As a composite product, a sandwich panel consists of two metal surfaces combined with insulation material. The durability and long service life of sandwich panels depend on selecting the correct technical specifications of the components, according to the building’s requirements and the environmental and climatic conditions in which it is located.

The outer surface of sandwich panels should be resistant to temperature variations, UV radiation, and external environmental conditions. The inner surface should be resistant to chemical and physical effects that may arise from the building’s internal environment, as well as condensation.

In addition, the load-bearing capacity of sandwich panels must be accurately calculated according to the loads they will be exposed to, in line with the type of insulation material used and the building’s requirements.

After installation in compliance with standards, sandwich panels and their accessories should be inspected, cleaned, and maintained at least once a year. Any damage caused by environmental conditions should be repaired without delay.


Dimensions of Sandwich Panels

 

In addition to industrial buildings and social facilities, sandwich panels can also be applied in military, agricultural, prefabricated structures, construction site buildings, and silos. Their effective width is 1000 mm, while the length can be produced according to the specific needs of the project.

When calculating sandwich panel sizes, the thickness of the insulation must also be taken into consideration. Insulation filling types and thicknesses should be selected based on the specifications of your building.

For roof and façade applications, the insulation thicknesses of Sandwich Roof and Façade Panels are:

  • PUR / PIR insulation: from 40 mm to 200 mm

  • Mineral Wool insulation: from 50 mm to 150 mm

  • EPS insulation: from 40 mm to 150 mm

For Cold Storage Panels, PUR / PIR insulation thicknesses range between 80 mm and 200 mm.

For Acoustic Panels, Mineral Wool insulation thicknesses range between 50 mm and 150 mm.
